CHINESE MEDICINE FOR CHILDREN
Chinese medicine has shown to be effective for various
disorders afflicting children. It is known that children’s qi (life
energy force) can be affected more rapidly with such modalities
than adults because their constitution has not been completely
set and they are more adaptable to subtle manipulations.
Children have not accumulated years of metabolic wastes like
adults. Hence, treatments for children take a shorter time than
for adults, roughly 15-20 minutes. They can be seen once a
month for prevention, to keep the child’s immune system
healthy.
There are special factors in the treatment of children, as they
are generally more susceptible to external pathogens and have
weaker, less developed digestive systems. They are also highly
susceptible to emotional stress. Many modern medicines can
have side effects that may weaken the child’s immune system
and natural resistance this is seen in the overuse of
antibiotics. The use of natural, preventative therapies reduces
the need for many medications.
Specific Pediatric disorders treated with acupuncture and herbs
include, but are not limited to: common colds, fever, ear
infections, asthma and allergies, colic, digestive disorders, bed
wetting, skin disorders, autism, mental retardation and
Attention Deficit Disorders.
Tui Na (Chinese massage) , Shon i-Shin (acupressure on
points using specific tools), herbal remedies and nutritional
counseling are modalities that can be successfully applied to
children to generate favorable results. Parents can be taught
the techniques and use them when needed. Poor nutrition
accounts for many pediatric diseases and can be manipulated
to prevent diseases including sinus infections, digestive
disturbances and attention disorders. (For more information

PEDIATRIC MASSAGE AND SHONI-SHIN
As a healing protocol massage promotes, circulation, balances
the body’s qi (energy force), clears obstructions, and
stimulates the immune system to help your child’s body fight
infections. Shoni-Shin is a form of bodywork that utilizes small
tools in order to spread the qi along the meridians and
stimulate acupuncture points. The tools are used by pressing,
tapping and rolling along the meridians. Shoni-Shin treats
many chronic and acute conditions in children.
