Massage Therapies
Shiatsu Massage

One type of massage I offer, in conjunction with an acupuncture
treatment or on it's own is an old traditional Japanese healing
method called "shiatsu" meaning finger pressure on the
acupuncture points.  While stimulating the points along the
body's meridians or energy channels, Shiatsu helps balance a
person's energy flow and strengthens the vital organs.

In Shiatsu- it is believed that disease is the result of blocked or
unbalanced energy that is either depleted or over-active.  In
such a conditions, disease may take over the body. Shiatsu can
address respiratory and digestive disorders as well as symptoms
such as headaches and leg cramps as well as many other stress
related health conditions.

Tui Na/ Accupressure Massage

Tui Na, another form of massage I offer has been used in China
for 2,000 years.  The system uses the traditional Chinese
medical theory of the flow of qi through the meridians and seeks
to establish a more harmonious flow.

Tui Na methods include the use of hand techniques such as
rolling, needing, pushing and grasping to massage muscles and
tendons of the body.  The major focus of application is on
specific pain sites, acupuncture points, channels and muscles.  It
is well suited for all types of stress related disorders.

Reflexology

The third massage technique that I utilize for enhanced well
being is reflexolgy- the application of pressure to the feet and
hands to effect corresponding parts of the body.  This pressure
on specifically mapped out points signals the peripheral nervous
system.  From there it enters the central nervous system where
it is processed in various parts of the brain.  It is then relayed to
the corresponding internal organs to allocate the necessary
adjustments.  Finally, the signal is sent to the motor system to
reduce stress on the body.

The hands and feet are significant avenues from which to
interrupt the stress signal and reset the body's equilibrium.  A
British reflexology study had 15 women receive 1/2 hour
sessions for eight weeks.  The findings included noticeable
physical and emotional improvements, increased self esteem,
and an improvement in concentration.
